In 2018 Catholic Women of the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn met in September and December to prepare a submission to the Plenary and to propose a model for an archdiocesan women’s group.
Women of the Archdiocese are now entering into another round of consultations, which will focus in the first instance on the regional deaneries. Representatives from the coordinating team, Sr Clare Condon, Moira Coombs and Marilyn Hatton, will visit the Monaro, Western, Northern and Coastal Deaneries during May and June to meet with women and to listen to local concerns and issues.
This will culminate with an Archdiocesan Consultation for Catholic Women on Saturday, 20 July. This Consultation Day will also provide women with the opportunity to follow up on the National Plenary Process.
The coordinating team is committed to consulting widely with women before forming an Archdiocesan Women’s Action Group. Suggestions about how this group might function will also be gathered. Thus far, women have been enthusiastic about the concept of the Catholic Women’s Action Group being purposeful and contributing to the life of the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn.
Some women hope for regular and life giving spiritual opportunities, others are keen to become involved in social justice initiatives to benefit women in need while many are looking for ways to participate in decision-making within the Church at local and Archdiocesan level.
Creative and cooperative planning will endeavour to provide a range of life giving options to complement the current initiatives within the Archdiocese.
Daramalan College, Dickson ACT have generously offered to host the Central Archdiocesan Consultation on 20 July. This day, close to the Feast of St Mary Magdalene on 22 July, will acknowledge her role as “Apostle to the Apostles” and invite women to be inspired anew to proclaim the good news to the world.
Once again, billeting will be arranged upon request and fuel subsidies will be offered to those who travel from regional areas to attend the Archdiocesan Consultation on 20 July. Catering will be provided and donations towards costs gratefully accepted.
